A catalogue with a life beyond the page

When WrightObara returned to the trade catalogue in 2018, the ambition extended beyond updating the existing publication. Evergreen wanted to present the company differently and make a stronger statement to its retail customers.

WrightObara presented a range of creative routes that challenged the team to reconsider how the business should appear. Rather than settling for a safe refresh, Evergreen chose a much more distinctive direction.

"Your team presented a range of styles and formats which initially made us think radically about the way the company was being presented. At times it made us feel uncomfortable, but that is a good thing! Your enthusiasm for creative ideas and looking at the latest trends was infectious, which helped push us to our limits with a fantastic result."

A series of botanical backdrops was created to distinguish the product categories throughout the catalogue. Rather than remaining decorative elements on the page, they became the basis of a flexible visual system that could be carried into Evergreen’s trade stand, visual merchandising, digital assets and in-store POS.

Turning product knowledge into useful training

In 2020, the relationship expanded into training as WrightObara began creating videos and infographics for the Evergreen Training Academy. The content needed to help retail customers and new employees become more confident with Evergreen’s brands and product categories, without allowing the technical detail to become difficult to follow.

Working with Evergreen’s specialists, WrightObara helped shape the source material into straightforward scripts, simple-to-approve storyboards, films and infographics. This allowed the internal team to concentrate on checking and refining the product knowledge rather than having to create every piece of content from scratch.

"They make each job a breeze, creating simple-to-approve storyboards and straightforward scripts, enabling me and the rest of the team to just review rather than create"

Janne HansenProduct Manager, Evergreen Garden Care

The Training Academy went on to win the Glee New Product Award 2021 in the Retail Services & Experiences category. Janne believes it also helped Evergreen strengthen its relationships across the garden-care industry, showing how useful training can support the wider trade relationship as well as transfer product knowledge.

More than 100 consumer how-to films

From 2021, WrightObara began creating video storytelling for consumer how-to videos across Evergreen’s product ranges. More than 100 have now been produced, giving the business a substantial library of practical content that helps customers understand how to use its products correctly and confidently.

Each production is also planned to capture a complementary set of still images. These include hero product shots, in-use photography for e-commerce sites and more candid images for social media, giving Evergreen a broader and more flexible content library from the same shoot.

Coordinating film and photography together is logistically demanding, particularly when products, locations, presenters and the British weather all have to align. But it makes effective use of the location, crew, products and Evergreen team’s time, helping the available budget work harder.

Producing content at that scale calls for more than individual creative ideas. It requires a repeatable process, a consistent standard and enough understanding of the products and audiences to keep each film useful without making the whole library feel formulaic.

Supporting the UK and global teams

Alongside the catalogue, retail and training projects, WrightObara has produced numerous other films for Evergreen, working with both the UK and global teams. These have included product-launch films and communications for internal and external audiences.

One of the most ambitious projects came in 2022, while travel restrictions were still affecting international events. Evergreen needed to bring its global team together, so WrightObara produced a live online conference, creating a multi-camera studio inside Evergreen’s offices.

"Phil and the team at WrightObara are a true partner to the Evergreen team, not only being exceptionally agile and responsive to briefs throughout the year (and whatever the weather!) but also adding value to building stronger communications and campaigns at every stage of development. WrightObara brings a wealth of industry knowledge, insight and contacts to every project - which makes for excellent execution and delivery."

An extension of the team

The relationship has grown because WrightObara can move between broad creative thinking, campaign development and detailed production, while understanding the demands placed on Evergreen’s internal teams. Jane has been a client contact since the first catalogue, and the partnership has widened over time as the UK and global teams have brought WrightObara into different kinds of projects.

Why it matters

From the first trade catalogue to an award-winning Training Academy, a library of more than 100 consumer films and accompanying photography, and a live global conference, the relationship shows what can happen when a creative partner develops a deep understanding of the business behind the brief.

WrightObara helps Evergreen find the clearest and most distinctive way to communicate, then has the creative and production experience to carry that thinking through wherever it appears. The result is joined-up work that retailers, consumers and internal teams can understand and use.
